Calendula, For Body and Soul

It’s time to order seeds! Well, it’s been time for about two months now but I’m a bit of a slowpoke.

Anyway… every year in the garden I plant calendulas. I just love them! The deep, rich orange color brightens my spirits even on the grumpiest of days.

I’ve always grown them, for as long as I can remember. Maybe a memory from my folks and their gardens. There are several wonderful and funky varieties, from bright yellow to doubles to an almost silvery hued flower that I currently have scattered around the herb garden. I have them in my own personal plot at the community garden and then they have more space to seed themselves with abandon in both the herb and flower gardens that I tend. And while I do love all those funky varieties I mentioned, my favorite is that deep, rich orange. SO lush with color you could just dive in! Such lovelies!

My original plan was to write this blog all about the benefits of calendula, body and soul.

But then I ran across this lovely blog post from Mountain Rose herbals and… they said it all beautifully, with excellent recipes as well!

I love this site and they always have great herbal information and as you will soon read, great blogs too. Hope you enjoy the writing and the recipes. Plant a few of these beauties in your garden plot or pots and find a new and uplifting friend in calendula!

I can’t wait to try the lip balm and oil. Happy Gardening!
