Find Your Pause Button

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! or so says Andy Williams.

This is a time of year that can be really fun, creative, social and festive; a time for gathering with family, reconnecting with old friends and creating and sharing memories.

It can also make you cray cray! (Sorry Oprah, I stole that from you and Gwyn and I use is ALL of the time!)

If you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed by the unending to do list and commitments that you’ve made during the holiday season – I invite you right this minute to come up with your pause button – something that will take you out of the madness, bring you back to center, and put a smile on your face.

What might that be you may ask?

Here’s a list of some simple , easy even fun ideas:

  • Do some yoga – either a class or a few poses in the morning – check out youtube if getting to a class seems like another thing “to do”
  • Set a timer on your phone and just sit mindfully for 10 minutes, I think you have 10 minutes, don’t you??? Don’t worry about trying to reach Nirvana, or achieve anything. Just sit your butt down and check out for 10. You can do it!
  • Take a hot restorative bath- add 2 cups of Epsom salt and if you’re feeling really fancy – add some essential oils – lavender is great for stress or pick one that’s already blended that speaks to you. Don’t have what you need, amazon’s got your back
  • Do a few rounds of the 4-7-8 breathing
  • Shut your phone off for an hour – gasp! I know, panic set in just reading that, give it a try.
  • Go for a walk around the block, or do your favorite form of exercise
  • Dance!
  • Have a cup of herbal tea and put your feet up

The bottom line is to find what your pause button is – the thing that’s going to stop the madness and make you smile. Keep it simple , keep it short, keep it easy but have it in place for when you need it.

So when I say, I need to hit my pause button – you know I am going to be doing the hustle! For me, that’s good medicine.
Maybe Santa will bring me a disco ball
