The Easiest Peasiest DIY EVER!

If you’ve been following Wellness Seeds for awhile, you know that I am kind of a DIY junkie. I love making my own masks, scrubs, and serums. I like the idea of knowing exactly what is in the products I am applying to my skin, using things that I can pronounce, and I like tapping in to my creative side to boot.

I recently switched recipes for the vitamin C serum that I have been using, which I’ll share in my next blog, so stay tuned! I keep the new version in the refrigerator so I haven’t been using the vitamin C on my whole body as I had done in the past.

Vitamin C is really important to add to your skin care. Some of the benefits to the skin include anti aging, anti wrinkle, brightening, increasing collagen production, and it can help repair excess sun damage.

I was reading a post on Wellness Mama’s site about vitamin C serum. She uses her recipe as more of a toner after cleansing your face. It’s a much simpler version than I make using only the vitamin C powder and distilled water.

I had an aha moment and realized I could make a tiny batch, put it in  a spray bottle and use it to spray my whole body after my shower before I moisturize!

Voila – now all of my skin is reaping the benefits of vitamin C. Vitamin C starts to loose stability and effectiveness when exposed to light, etc, so it doesn’t have a super long shelf life. I literally just double the recipe and add it to a small blue or amber glass spray bottle.  You can grab one at whole Foods or on Amazon.

Here is the recipe inspired by Wellness Mama:

1/2 tsp Vitamin C Powder
1tbl of distilled water.
Mix together and pour in to your spray bottle and you are all set. I have been doubling it or tripling it and making it about once a week. Vitamin C can burn if you have sensitive skin, so start out slowly with it.

Happy DIYing!

My New Favorite Mask

Cucumber-face-mask

I’ve recently been stepping up my skin care game and I’ve been exploring some fun, easy DIY recipes for taking care of my skin. I’m doing my best to use more natural things and products without a ton of scary ingredients in them. I’ve already shared my DIY Vitamin C, and I’m going to share another EASY mask for you.

My good friend Denise, gave me a jar of Bentonite Clay awhile ago. It was recommended to me to clean my Kansa Wands. When mixed with water the clay acts like a sponge for pulling out impurities. I used the clay for Kansa wand cleaning and never really looked at it. One day I noticed it said – “World’s Most Powerful Facial” – well, hell yes, sign me up! I followed the directions and was amazed. My skin looked brand new. I looked refreshed, it felt cleaner and it was satiny smooth and I noticed that my pores looked smaller. All of this after one treatment!

What the heck is Bentonite Clay?

It is a natural, healing clay from volcanic ash that is full of minerals and draws out toxins and can remove heavy metals. There are two types – Sodium Bentonite Clay which is usually used more for detoxifying and drawing out and Calcium Bentonite Clay which is used more for remineralizing.

How is it used?

It can be used internally, which I personally have not tried, but I know people who have had success with it, and can be used externally on the skin.

Internally used it can help with symptoms of constipation, bloating, gas, irritable bowel syndrome, and can help with cleansing the body of intestinal impurities and heavy metals.

Externally, as I mentioned it can open and deep clean the pores, act as an exfoliant, draw out toxins, help clear out acne, and leave you soft, smooth and glowing.

Here’s how to do the mask- it’s as easy as 1-2-3!

  1. Start with a non-reactive bowl and spoon. I just ordered this cute combo just to make things easy. I had been using a small pyrex dish and a plastic spoon.
  2. Mix 1 tsp of clay this is the one I use with 1 tsp of water, rose water or apple cider vinegar. I personally use a little vinegar (it seems to make the clay foam up and easier to mix with out getting clumpy and a little rosewater because I am addicted to anything rose!
  3. Mix together to form a smooth paste and apply 1/4 to 1/2 inch to the face. I extend down the neck and across the chest as well. Leave on for 5-10 minutes for delicate skin , 15-20 nor normal skin.

That’s it! Easy peasey!

The first time I used it, I noticed a slight tingling and I only left it on for about 10 minutes, and I looked slightly red for about a minute, which it does say on the jar that that is normal. The mask increases blood flow to the skin, so being a little pink after is normal.  Now that I have been doing it for a while, I leave it on for about 20 minutes and I’m not red at all after it. Just smooth and glowy!  I’m especially loving it now during summer since I’m going to the beach a lot and my skin feels funky after all of the sunscreen and sweat. I’ve also learned that you can use it in the tub for a nice detoxifying bath. I like the sound of that, but it sounds kind of messy. You can also make a larger batch of the mask and do a body mask and then soak in the tub – sounds good too, but still sounds messy.

It’s recommended to use the mask once a week and that’s what I shoot for. I did the mask after the beach the other day and my husband Joe mentioned at dinner how nice my skin looked. That’s a testimonial!

I’d love to hear if you try it and what kind of results you had from the “World’s Most Powerful Facial!”

Let’s Talk Dirty

I took the bait.
I kept seeing ads on Facebook and I finally said, “Ok, I’ll try it!”I’m referring to The Dirt – Trace Mineral Tooth Brushing Powder.

If you’ve been reading our blog for awhile, you know that this girl likes her red wine and tea. As a result, my teeth were not exactly pearly white. I also have EXTREMELY sensitive teeth. I had tried over the counter whitening products that actually made my teeth hurt and more sensitive. I was looking for something natural and The Dirt kept calling to me. So I took the bait and ordered it.

I was very skeptical, but it got great reviews. I liked the fact that I could pronounce all of the ingredients. The first ingredient is Bentonite Clay which I am already a fan of and use to make a great DIY mask.

I have to say that I absolutely love this product! It’s kind of a different experience brushing with a powder as opposed to a toothpaste that foams up. You have to really hang over the sink since it will drip out and it’s brown. I know it sounds gross, but it has a spicy, orangey flavor from the essential oils and it makes your teeth and gums feel really clean and drumroll….. my teeth are whiter after just a few weeks!

I typically use it once a day and DoTerra’s On Guard Whitening Toothpaste any other times that I brush in a day. There are some DIY recipes out there that I may play with down the road since I already have Bentonite clay but it seems like this tiny jar is going to last quite a while. You just wet your brush, dip it in and off you go.

Because I’m an Amazon Prime junkie, I ordered mine there. Two days, free delivery…who could resist?

I’d love to know if anyone else is as in love with The Dirt as I am – let’s talk dirty!
(She says with a whiter smile!)
